Why I joined The Knitting and Crochet Guild

Why I joined The Knitting and Crochet Guild

Vickie Cole |

So about eighteen months ago a white envelope arrived at the shop and for once it wasn't a bill. Inside was an invitation from The Knitting and Crochet Guild for the shop to join the Guild, it wasn't a lot so a signed up after all we are both working towards a common cause.

For those of you that aren't familar with the Knitting & Crochet Guild it was established in 1978 and it's purpose is to help knitters and crocheters everywhere learn more about the traditions and techniques of their crafts so they can develop their skills. Let's face it that's not a million miles away from what we do as Local Yarn Shop (LYS) with our knit n natters and workshops.

Fast forward a bit and I've had several emails from the Knitting and Crochet Guild suggesting I might want to set up a local branch. You will be pleased to hear we have done just that and would like to invite local knitters or crocheters to our very first meeting on Tuesday 3rd July 7 pm at the shop.

This is your chance to learn about the Guild and help establish a local branch. We have the committee in place but now we want to hear what you want? Be that regular meetings. workshops, talks, trips out come along and have your say. Come and tell me and the rest of the committee what you want from us.For the first meeting it doesn't matter if you are already a member of the Guild, but you will be expected to join if you wish to continue to attend Guild meetings.

There are several benefits to joining the Knitting and Crochet Guild including having access to the Guilds huge resources of patterns, people, textile collections, knowledge and information. Not to mention you get a discount at various yarn shops across the country including mine. You can also access the patterns held in the Guild archive and receive regular newsletters.

Membership costs just £25 a year and you can sign up online or we will have the forms available for you to post off it you prefer to pay the old fashioned way.

So what are you waiting for come and join us on Tuesday 3rd July at 7 pm and join the Guild. I'm sure we will have a lot of fun along the way and as one customer said to me the other day it's the knitting equivalent of the WI. Don't worry if you can't make the first meeting we will be meeting the first Tuesday of every month (except August).
